@whoseurneighbor I’ve been using namecheap for a while, i think they’re pretty good. Once, I had an issue with a misspelled domain I purchased, got a hold of their service team, and they took care of it right away. That kind of stuff keeps me around.

@b0rk @core Aw that sucks. I've used namecheap for years for many dozens of domains and have been really happy with them. To be fair, I use them mainly as a registrar and immediately set nameservers to CloudFlare. Though I also setup a cheap mailbox for a client and that was good too.

@Namecheap @djensen47 I just hit the same issue. It seems like this is purely a Namecheap thing, NOT a .es thing. I transferred the domain to another registrar (Hexonet, who Namecheap are just reselling for .es domains anyways) and was able to renew it there at the normal price.

As a longtime @Namecheap customer, I'd recommend staying away. What used to be one of the best domain registrars now is falsely advertising pricing on their domains, then waiting until you've checked out to change the price to a much higher one. Disappointing.#webhosting #domains

@Namecheap 1) Thanks for the reply! That would help if enabling 2FA restricted IMAP/SMTP/POP3/etc to only work with Application-specific passwords. However, the current implementation still allows the main account password without 2FA for those services.

@Namecheap 2) Of course app passwords do provide some protection on their own in terms of reduced surface area if the app password becomes compromised, but it doesn't address the issue with 2FA that I was describing.

@Namecheap This information and using it against the victim to claim that they have already paid for this service and charging even more fees (sometimes exorbitant) that they often convince the victim they can't get out of. My thread explains how I was witness to this firsthand.

This feels like an especially big bummer because I'm otherwise quite pleased with Namecheap's service as a registrar and recently as an email provider. I can't tell whether this is just an oversight or cutting corners to be able to say "we support 2FA".

@Namecheap Why are Your Device Verification Codes not being sent out? Im trying to renew a Domain and this is ridiculous. Spent ages on Chat with 3 of your colleagues. To be told to send support ticket. This is appalling, loads with same issue going on for Years.

@dubstard @nomsolence @Namecheap Namecheap still fails at handling fraudulent domains in bulk. We report about 8 a day mimicking us and their team rather than checking it out, demands proof it is phishing, despite the very clear brand markings that clearly do not belong to attacker with a login page.

Abysmal customer support at @Namecheap as usual.
