A bug in Path of Exile 2 took eighteen months to fix. The fix itself took two weeks. The crash, a “device removed” error paired with severe stuttering, only affected NVIDIA graphics cards, and only on driver version 566.36 and later, a version that happened to release just before the game’s early access launch. Grinding Gear Games identified the pattern early. What they could not do was make NVIDIA look at it, because NVIDIA’s position was that it would investigate once the studio could reproduce the crash on demand, not before. That is where most of the eighteen months went. The team built custom debugging systems and a full replay system capable of re-triggering the exact crash, eventually compressing reproduction time from several hours down to five to seven minutes. Even then, the bug did not appear on every machine. So Grinding Gear Games packed an entire PC, monitor, keyboard, and mouse included, and shipped the whole rig directly to NVIDIA. No steps to follow, no room to fail to reproduce it. The company put the hardware itself on a truck. About a month after it arrived, an NVIDIA engineer saw the crash happen in person for the first time. Two weeks after that, engineers traced it to an internal shader heap size setting. A week later, the fix shipped inside NVIDIA’s own driver update, adjustable specifically for Path of Exile 2 without requiring any change to the game’s code at all. Add it up and the actual diagnosis and repair, once someone at NVIDIA was looking directly at the problem, took roughly a month and a half. The other seventeen months were the cost of getting anyone there in the first place. Game director Jonathan Rogers opened a bottle of champagne when the fix went live. The bug wasn’t hard. Getting looked at was.

@pathofexile How about addressing a single issue that is causing this game to die instead of circle jerking yourself with bullshit events no one watches or cares about?

@mirukukitten @pathofexile Not sure if ggg uses Bait operatives but other games will put a dummy rmt'er to catch The Sellers rather then just buyers. But i can see it Creating issues with the ecosystem especially in hardcore which is already Small

@korri_x1292 @pathofexile That is so insanely untrue. I'm convinced half the people complaining didn't even play the league and are just parroting a few loud streamers. League had its problems but the league mechanic was solid once they fixed the loot and all flame crafting was amazing.

@VeryDMonstrous You know what I'ma say about the purple website. - w- Gonna beat you over the head with that in perpetuity. But additionally, leverage the browse page on Twitch too to see if anything stands out that you'd want to play. o/ I have a similar issue, I know I play stuff that's probably just too niche. I overestimate how much pull it has based on nostalgia (For me, see Mother 3, and an even more recent release in Omori). Poor memory in mind, I still don't think anyone who came to watch those games stuck around, and they're so dead that there was nil chance of people joining in the first place, let alone sticking around long term. On the opposite end, you have games like Deltarune that are massively popular, but many of your watchers will be gimmick account loyalists who won't stick around either. On top of the community itself potentially not meshing with what your community is today. Just off the cuff though, things that I'd see you enjoying that's tracking well on Twitch today: Elden Ring. You can generate hype moments off of that, and do your favorite thing: lore immersion. Path of Exile 2. A game with big community, you can join as a newcomer, attract people, and larp as the dark lord making a skeleton summon build with a necromancer pet class or something. Pokemon. Dark Lord Nuzlocke challenges. They aren't pokemon, they're your demongrels, named after chatters. Or vtubers. You can ham it up to hell here. Runescape: Silly, chill, not necessarily something that plays up to your strengths, but it is free, and it's a warm community that trends older and is helpful to new players. That's just off the top o/ Homie hit me up if you want I like brainstorming stuff. Innate male need to try to fix problem.

@pathofexile Thank you for fixing that crash! It was annoying when it happened, but the mitigation made it so it wasn't alt-f4 worthy.
