    @sorsoup @mikebutcher I was just trying to figure out the encryption differences between WhatsApp and Telegram. The sad fact is ISIS uses Telegram because they figured out this is the ONLY messenger whose encryption cannot be broken and they cannot be tracked, even by Telegram company itself.

    @MoonfallArtemis Idk because that is where the .majority of it's piracy market exists and it pisses off rights holders because they can't target individuals they can only send DMCA to Telegram to get them shut down the group which rarely ever happens

    @ktherese2 There are some caveats to the security and privacy story for Telegram but I don't think they matter for the vast majority of potential users and I find it more usable. They haven't had an actual security issue that I'm aware of, just pettifoggery about MTProto.

Telegram's servers are closed source, it is founded by the same people as VK, it doesn't use e2ee by default, they lack transparency, and it is centralized. Signal is a decent app, but decentralized messengers are even better.
