@Kimmyintheworld @yuhline @noFelld mastodon works like email, each email service like gmail, yahoo mail = server they can all talk to each other, so you're not limited to just people in that server

@The_LizMarshall Right. Masto is like Outlook. It's more of a User Interface. And you can use Outlook w/ yahoo mail, hotmail, gmail server. The server owner installs Masto on their ABC server. You are signing up with ABC (like you would with yahoo) and send/receive/find toots (like email).

@hdfcsec not able to login my account from last 3 to 4 days as not receiving otp in yahoo mail. So many international calls, do many mails..no action...after dial-up customer care with international call..holding for 10 minutes and answer is..request us under process 😔

Seriously, *sometimes*, the complaints from Twitter users trying out Mastodon sound like yahoo mail users trying out gmail for the first time. “But where are the folders?” Now, “why do I have to choose a server?” People are so used to centralized monopoly services, sheesh.

@kathyf To use an analogy: you can’t sign in on Yahoo Mail with a Gmail account, but you can still send emails between Yahoo Mail and Gmail because all the different email servers talk to each other despite being separately owned.

@yahoomail My daughter has a .co.uk email addresss and has accidentally had important email sent to the dot com equivalent. She can login in to the dot com email but it reverts to .co.uk. Is there a way of accessing the .com email? Can yahoo+ fix this?

@MattTheDev @bluesky @joinmastodon Don't think of it as distributed google circles, think of it as a mix between twitter and email. Email in the server sense. You might use gmail, I might use yahoo mail but we can still talk to each other.
