@345triangle @hbomax Oh it could be an HDR issue indeed, that makes sense. Brightness on my TV is the same as usual, the iPhone photo may be too bright though because of the big window reflection behind me. I believe in my case it’s playing the SDR file tho

@puffyplums @hbomax Mines been lagging on my Xbox too but when I cast it on my tv or watch on my iPad or laptop, it’s perfect. Hope they release an update or something cause the lag is terrible

@HBOMaxHelp @zephyr757 Dear hbomax.. I work in the industry.. if so many people complain... maybe the "intentional creative decision" should be roll back, you presented ****. You can shot the intentional darkness without a dark screen... just saying. "Intentional creative decision" is just an excuse.

@HBOMaxHelp will there be an update to the Xbox app? Everything has a terrible lag. My other streaming apps work fine on my Xbox series x. And HBO works fine when I cast it to my tv or watch on my laptop. So it’s solely the app on Xbox that’s awful right now

@coryjseaman @zephyr757 @hbomax It's not a calibration issue. This is a streaming service who has a history of airing shows, from a particular director, that are simply too dark. It's simply poor direction. The rest of the episode was fine, imo. Just stop using the moon as your key light.

@HBOMaxHelp Looks like it’s an HBO problem and I’m not the only one who thinks it’s super dark. iPad is at max brightness with lights off and I can’t see a thing in dark scenes.

@HBOMaxHelp I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Signed in and out. And checked for updates. My Xbox is fine. My internet is fine because I did cast HBO max to my tv and it worked perfectly. It’s only on my Xbox that’s the issue

Wrong casting again, Hollywood, like Holland in Uncharted. Ramsey is the rebooted (and terrible version of) Mildred Hubble. Pascal is The Mandalorian. You never get it right! Come up with some originality instead of ripping off established source material! #thelastofus @hbomax

@HBOMaxHelp @zephyr757 I watched GOT and got infuriated about scenes too dark to see, esp after years invested watching. This is one of the main reasons that I haven't bothered watching HOTD, I feared another awful 'creative decision' like that. I'm sorry that happened Stephen, I can commiserate.

@MehdiShibahara @hbomax photos of other screens aren’t very reliable but it looks like your TV has jacked up brightness, which you can’t do on an ipad. which ipad is it? maybe an HDR encoding issue?

@tonyvstech @HBOMaxHelp It’s terrible. Have a new 4K oled and couldn’t see a thing. And they’re like “it’s your settings”. First of all, no. Secondly I shouldn’t have to adjust settings to see a scene lol

@m7mdsa3ed_ @HBOMaxHelp @CVIKIS Nearly every device able to display video gives the user control of brightness & gamma. It's not a hardware quality issue in most cases, though it does seem that people who use higher end hardware are more likely to have already adjusted their settings.

@HBOMaxHelp The frame rate drops constantly on all streams I can get to work. A good chunk of the streams ultimately end up closing with a pop up message saying the content isn’t available at the moment.

@HBOMaxHelp @CallSignWhisker @HBOMaxHelp so are you paying for my eye surgery then? I signed on to watch a damn show, not squint at a dark screen trying desperately to see anything then get blinded when the episode shifts directly to blinding light. It was a terrible choice, at least own that much.

@HBOMaxHelp you guys will lose viewers by keeping the scenes so dark in #HouseOfTheDragonHBO. Please tell the writers to not complain about people not adjusting or tuning their TV the right way. They will never do that. Better to solve this issue on your end then to lose viewers.

@345triangle Look at my 2 photos. The Verge is saying the difference is because streaming services compress videos and data is lost. Both my devices are on the same network! There is a real issue here, and blaming the episode director is not gonna make @hbomax fix their app!
