@Roku I have Backdrops set to start after 1 min of inactivity. It never starts on its own. I never had this issue with the photo streams app. It always started reliably. I've looked online for trouble shooting (like start it manually) then it might work once but not anymore

The biggest problem with our @Roku TV: It's not earning the company any money because it is stuck in an unfixable boot loop. I bought this TV at Best Buy three years ago. It was for an elderly family member. She loved it. Until she didn't. As I was packing for the StreamTV Show last month, she called me to say her TV kept rebooting itself. "It's stuck on the spaceship thing," she said. I had no idea what that meant. I gave her my Sony TV to use while I tried to fix the problem. And let me tell you something, I have tried literally everything. I searched online for a fix, and found a number of Roku TV users who have encountered the same thing: For no reason, their TVs just randomly started boot looping, and trying to download and reinstall the firmware through Recovery Mode was no help. Some people suggested holding down the reset and power buttons for a certain length of time. That didn't work. Others suggested draining "zombie power" by pressing the power button for a half-minute while the TV is unplugged. That didn't work. A few said connecting to a mobile hotspot while in recovery might work. It didn't. One person suggested hooking the TV into a router via Ethernet. Well, this TV doesn't have an Ethernet port. This is the second Roku-powered TV that has caused us an issue. The first was a Walmart Onn-branded TV that died after six months. I figured one of Roku's own TVs was a reliable replacement, because the company told us as much when it started making its own TVs a few years ago. Then, executives promised that shipping Roku TVs where the company controlled the entire supply chain would help it make better-informed decisions about how its users were interacting with their devices, which would lead to better hardware and software experiences. Ultimately, our issue likely boils down to this: Roku uses cheap hardware in its smart TVs and streaming boxes to keep costs low. Executives said as much earlier this year when they affirmed that the ongoing processor and RAM shortage was likely to be a boon for Roku's business, because the company's operating system doesn't require premium hardware to operate. But the decision to use cheap hardware also means that it is more prone to breaking, and that is a major problem for a company like Roku. The company's $1.1 billion platform business is inherently dependent on consumers having reliable hardware that allows them to interact with said platform. When streaming devices and smart TVs break, it not only prevents customers from using their platform, it leaves a sour taste in their mouths — and customers are prone to abandoning the platform for a competitor. Which, in my family member's home, is now what has happened. She's inherited my six-year-old Sony TV, and she loves it. She's not giving it back. It runs Android. There's a bit of a learning curve, but she's committed to figuring it out. "I'm done with Roku," she told me. "I hope Fox knows what they're buying." $ROKU

@Roku Who do I need to contact about an issue with a commercial on your service? My mother saw an ad for a assistance card, and since she did that, she has been getting non stop spam calls meaning a commercial on YOUR service sold her phone number.

  • rables73
    Rob Ables (@rables73) reported

@Roku Hi @Roku thanks but as I stated in the original post, it does it on all 4 of my Roku devices, so it is not a restart issue. Also, it is only the @MLB app. None of my other apps have this issue or other buffering. The MLB app does it multiple times per game and gets stuck.

@Roku after being a long time customer for over 15 years and bought over 15 devices from you, the best you can offer is 30% off when one of your most expensive devices stops working because of a hardware issue?!?! Not to mention terrible customer support!!!

  • skjones_65

@Roku your latest software update / redesign is quite bad. Is the intention to slow our devices down so we'll have to buy new ones? Please revert to the way it was or modify so our devices will not be so slow and almost unusable. New does not equal better.

  • burownidl01
    burownidl (@burownidl01) reported

@Roku @TheRokuChannel @foxone For anyone following and has the same issue. I contacted Roku support via their website and chatted with online support. It looks like they fixed my problem as I can see the Worldcup pregame show now

  • MatthewKeysLive
    Matthew Keys (@MatthewKeysLive) reported

@Roku UPDATE: I was proven wrong! The Roku TV in question suffered from a software bug, one that the company is aware of and is in the process of fixing. A small number of TVs experienced the glitch, and the company is working to address it. Roku's terrific customer support restored my faith in the company, and I'm so glad we don't have to replace this TV!

Thank you @Roku I've been paying $70 a month to @DIRECTV for the exact same channels as you all and you have way less commercials and better quality. Thank GOD I found Roku

@Roku I've had a #Roku account for five plus years. Now I can't login/connect to My @amazonfiretv because of your ridiculous captcha and login failure. Ridiculous.

@zfatcat2 @Roku I have seen other people mention issues with captions. It's only happening when using Roku and it's the same across my various Roku apps. 🙃

  • ultramantis7
    Missouri_Gamer (@ultramantis7) reported

@Roku FoxOne on the Roku Channel does not work; Fox apparently cannot stream the games to Roku. It isn't Roku's fault, but why am I paying $20 a month?

  • Mare_Loch
    Mare Loch (@Mare_Loch) reported

@Roku Hey! Fix your closed captioning! Doesn’t even work on your own commercial channels. You know, the channels that show commercials every two minutes? Do you hate the hearing impaired or what?

  • __kbolaydiggs__

@Roku might be the worst TV brand ever. Remotes never work, when you try to use a mobile remote it can never connect to the TV.. Let’s get it together.

  • rables73

@MLB can you please fix your streaming app for @Roku and Apple TV so they don’t suck? EVERY SINGLE game I watch on ANY of my streaming devices stops at least 3-4 times per game with spinning circle of death. No other apps have buffering problems on my 1GB line and mesh WiFi.

@swiftfairy_13 @DiscussingFilm @Roku I highly recommend any tv that doesn’t have a build in service like Roku. Many makers and retail chains can sell same models but last few numbers are dif so you get less quality out of it. There’s some fantastic options out there though

  • mrhappybw

@Roku Man, this update totally screwed up my TV when it finally landed on my TV, the hdmi inputs keep screwing up for the cable box, isnt the cable or box because they work fine on other TV’s. Dog **** new home screen and this issue make me never want another one from y’all.

@Roku It's awful. More clutter I do not need and I need to click down just to get to all of my apps. Simple and streamlined is always better. Why are you trying to fix things that aren't broken?
