@WayneMantykaCTV Sasktel put a price on email to drive people to instead use one of the many free email alternatives with the goal of killing off the service. Its a huge cost that Sasktel doesn't want to have to pay to provide their email service so instead they want users to pay for it. Simple.

@EverettMartin @SaskTel Anti telecom sentiment die down? Didn’t happen in my 28 year career. Everyone loves to hate telcos. Easy targets.

  • EverettMartin Everett Martin (@EverettMartin) reported

@pkcanada1 @SaskTel I can tell you from my news service and social media sentiment analyses that anger at telecoms is worse than average currently following Rogers outages, Bell Canada corporate culture problems, Rogers/Shaw merger, and Telus labour issues.

  • pkcanada1 Paul Kelly (@pkcanada1) reported

@EverettMartin @SaskTel That would be too much too quick. The introduction of a small fee would have been intended to start getting people to move off the service by their own volition. Then when sub base is smaller, wind it down and help customers transition.

  • B97932652 B (@B97932652) reported

@SaskTel Sasktel? More like Shadytel! They also reduced data speed from 2mbps down to 512kbps after 10gb of use. That's a 75% reduction in speed for data users with no reduction in price. @sasktel is crooked af. Now if only their "shareholder" would Crack the whip more. @PremierScottMoe

  • pkcanada1 Paul Kelly (@pkcanada1) reported

@EverettMartin @SaskTel It’s moot as the minister has intervened. The intent of putting a visible price on the service was to encourage people to stop using it. Support costs are astronomical for a fairly lousy email service with little sign of improvement. This is about displacing cost.

  • rferschy Russell Fersch (@rferschy) reported

@neilserfas @olblue81 @SaskTel It would be a never ending process would take years to be honest

  • pkcanada1 Paul Kelly (@pkcanada1) reported

@EverettMartin @SaskTel Which is exactly what they started to do. But the Minister heard the blow back and turtled. Now SaskTel is stuck with an expensive support contract for a ****** email service, and people will continue to complain that their services are too expensive

  • cstewartyqr Colin Stewart (@cstewartyqr) reported

@lynboyle4 @habpipes For me the problem is that SaskTel's competition provides ten free, AND much faster speeds for the same price. SaskTel needs to compete, and quit acting like they're the only game in town.

  • EverettMartin Everett Martin (@EverettMartin) reported

@pkcanada1 @SaskTel Yeah... except it is a service used primarily by people without the wherewithal to switch. If Sasktel wants to deprecate email, they should a) stop offering it to new customers, b) stop updating the GUI, and finally c) discontinue it with lots of notice, and ample migration help.
