Imagine that, someone like Elon musk helping millions of people stay in contact and have access to the internet.....for $0. This is a business decision and not a bad one. $8/month is coffee.

@MHReddell Are they suggesting new space initiatives will block out the skies completely w light pollution? Currently this is just a city vs town vs countryside issue. I thought starlink would have this effect but it hasnt seemed to. Light pollution concerns all, not just Māori.

@Padraiccleary @ccferrie @elonmusk 1. Starlink is anything but low cost. It's a terrible business model subsidised at the moment by the US government and it's ruining astronomy. 2. As a starter for other car companies - yes. Tesla itself will never be low-cost. 3. PayPal had to get rid of him to be successful.

@faylen I had no idea it was particularly expensive. That kind of defeats the purpose of being available in very low income rural areas. How much are we talking? Hughesnet, the other satellite service, is $100 per month. Please tell me Starlink is less.

Some frequencies move so slow they can pass through things - some move so fast they smash apart. I'd expect some Starlink interruption in serious weather. Water, ice, snow and sleet are objects.
