Videotron is down so I'll just be here on my phone, a bit bored

  • fanCRTCProfling Commissioner Miner (@fanCRTCProfling) reported

@apukwa Yup. Videotron was able to buy spectrum in the area freedom/Shaw-mobile operates because they were selling vpn service or something in Manitoba. Rules are u can't get spectrum w/o facilities. ISED allowed it calling it facilities Was a court fight. Videotron & ISED won.

  • strutswell Nick Hatswell (@strutswell) reported

@Mae149 @Videotron I am incredibly interested to learn more about not using DNS resolution I thought it was a requirement for ipv6. Is there some other service discovery you are using?

  • Mae149 Manon Lessard (@Mae149) reported

@strutswell @Videotron We run an ipv6 infra but we don't do ipv6 DNS resolution. So among other things, we'd have to that, and there are issues with windows share that have been known to cause issues in the past when clients show up v6. Not a huge deal but on top of heavy pile.

  • penseur_logique Jeff 🇨🇦 🇺🇦 5x Vaxxed (3 Pf,2Mod) (@penseur_logique) reported from Ottawa, Ontario

@caiobchi @cmaconthehill @CityNewsKIT Videotron competition lowered prices in Quebec. Much like MTS + Sasktel did in MB / SK. Competition for the big 3. Videotron has service outside of QC, in Ottawa, same prices as QC. The big 3 and their flanker brands would not match prices of Videotron in Ottawa. We switched.

  • noIPv6 👻 spooky ipv6-only networking 👻 (@noIPv6) reported

@Videotron @Mae149 agreed - if a vpn breaks in the presence of ipv6 (w/ legacy ip remaining intact), that’s a vpn problem, not an ipv6 problem 🤨 ipv6 is coming (34-37% of .ca has it NOW); if your tech falls over when it rolls out, you made implementation mistakes (& should have tested for that)

  • wrikent3500 wrikent3500 (@wrikent3500) reported

@DewlineO @lachstep @DavidWCochrane That's a non starter issue,Wexit is way more of a threat than Québec seperation because it's just not a thing anymore in Québec plus Videotron is the only company that could have taken over Freedom Mobile in terms of financial and structural costs

  • RSmithC2 RS (@RSmithC2) reported

@What23HasDone That's not what happened. He just gave it to Videotron who will price fix with Rogers like they already do. It's a way to save face to the public and still get Rogers what they wanted. Now Rogers doesn't have to worry about being undercut, while Videotron cause easily raise prices

  • cmaconthehill Cormac Mac Sweeney (@cmaconthehill) reported

    1) Freedom Mobile needs to stay in Videotron's possession for at least 10 years. 2) Prices for Freedom wireless service in Ontario & Western Canada must be comparable to what Videotron is currently offering in Quebec, which is on avg 20% lower than rest of Cda #cdnpoli

  • fagstein Steve Faguy (@fagstein) reported

Among the conditions the federal government has placed is for Quebecor to lower Freedom Mobile's prices by 20 per cent so they align with Videotron's mobile service prices in Quebec. Quebecor says they are willing to do this.
