@caiobchi @cmaconthehill @CityNewsKIT Videotron competition lowered prices in Quebec. Much like MTS + Sasktel did in MB / SK. Competition for the big 3. Videotron has service outside of QC, in Ottawa, same prices as QC. The big 3 and their flanker brands would not match prices of Videotron in Ottawa. We switched.

@SweetSpotRD @RogersHelps @SaskTelSupport Yeah, Shaw Mobile is really iffy everywhere outside of cities in Alberta, I’ve found. Honestly, everyone seems to have trouble other than Sasktel in Saskatchewan.

@kurtstoll_CAN @MPAVictoria Sorry, you know the telecoms collude HOW? And SaskTel is a provincial utility and NOT something that could be expanded to the rest of Canada. And I would be interested in seeing SaskTel's books, to see how much taxpayer money is being poured in to keep rates down.

Most of Canada has two main wireline network options - the traditional telco (Bell, Telus, SaskTel) and the cableco (Rogers, Shaw, Videotron). Building a third wireline network to compete with that across the country doesn't make financial sense.

@christoaivalis At MINIMUM a federal crown corporation to be the 4th carrier to compete and break down the monopoly. Like how SaskTel is a public utility that holds majority control of Sask market

@David_Moscrop Public provision along the lines of SaskTel seems more interesting, but I don't think we should assume that crown corporations are immune from software upgrade problems.

@David_Moscrop nationalize all the infrastructure. lease out contracts for use and maintenance. create a few crown corps as well to compete. problem solved. see: SaskTel

@JJ_McCullough We have SaskTel here in Saskatchewan and we pay like 50% less for our cell phone service than the rest of the country. How is this a bad idea?

@FP_Champagne It's a problem that the "heads of the major telecom companies" is 3 people. Your next meeting should be with the heads of *minor* telecom companies asking what they need, and with SaskTel to see if a crown corp. should own the infrastructure.
