And often exec govt footed the bill to bring better service into an area. There is no way a private company would have done the same. But ya, the service still sucks.

Greg Bamford🇺🇦 (@Drofmab) reported from Regina, Saskatchewan@cstewartyqr Yeah - my issue was twofold: - I either had to transfer my Bell contracts to SaskTel, or buy-out nearly 2 years remaining with Bell; and - Rogers’ coverage was (still is) exceptionally limited in Sask. Cities, and major highways. Not viable for my use.

They thought it was oversubscribed. I finally dug into it and discovered a govt computer would get turned on every summer that was full of viruses & killed service for everyone.

What Sasktel does do is invest more in infrastructure for our vast rural areas than regular providers would. I'm OK to pay a "little" more for that and we support them for that reason.

The outage is expected to last approximately 8 hours. The exact timing of the service interruption cannot be confirmed in advance. During the outage, residents who require emergency assistance should physically contact another person for help or visit your nearest health clinic or RCMP detachment. Actual speeds and coverage may vary due to the device being used, network congestion, distance from the cell site, and local conditions. Unfortunately there could be some spotty areas along highways where population is sparse as well.

Sasktel technical service said no ETA on fix. Told me my neighbourhood was marked fixed and no technicians available until tomorrow evening. Home business owner here pretty frustrated!

I spend a lot of time in Saskatchewan, people here seem pretty satisfied with SGI and SaskPower as well, even though they are monopolies, unlike SaskTel. Government run isn't always bad, just usually.
