@telus big pet peeve of mine is having to call in to a service provider because they have made severe errors on a bill. Makes me think this nonsense is intentional because the average person doesn't catch it.

@shannonplante @MarkJCarney Telus here already sucks at most things they should be good at. So i dont expect them to be able to understand why this is a terrible idea, along with ruining the downtown view.

Half the people talking about the Telus data center in Vancouver are literally some of the dumbest people in Canada I swear to god. Why Telus? -Because who TF else is going to build it? Why downtown Vancouver? -Because that's where the ******* internet exchange is. Downtown in a city is the most retarded place for a data center!!!11!!11! -No, you're literally an idiot stfu. The data center will be loud and create loads of issues for people?? -NO, you're literally an idiot stfu. Why is Telus the only business in Canada who can build data center infrastructure? -Because they've been doing it for the past 15 years and they know how to do it. Why is there nobody else in Canada who can do it? -Because they all work at Telus. Can't Rogers do it? -No. Can't Bell do it? - LOL. Why can't some other company other than Telus do it? -Because there is literally nobody else. How can a company with no experience in data centers build data center? - They have 5 data centers already and building a data center has less to do with what is inside and more to do with the services it provides and the SLA. How can it be true that the only qualified party to take on one of the most important technology projects in the country is one of the biggest technology companies in the country? - ... How can it be true there is only one qualified party in the country? - Why would the opposite be true?

@MobileMikeV @SawyerMerritt Funny my Telus fibre optic is less reliable than my starlink was. After taxpayer rural fibre was added (thanks everyone) I did lower my bill $50 a month at the time. (It crept back up and starlink is cheaper now). But starlink had no slow downs. Telus fibre still does. It’s strange. Top soeeds (although I only need about 20-30 were about 150 for starlink and 3-400 for Telus. So apparently it is faster (just of no benefit to my usage)…but the micro slowdowns are.

@PeterMeiszner TELUS's established BPO operations via TELUS Digital, which runs customer service and support centres in Guatemala and the Philippines involving access to Canadian personal data. In March 2026 TELUS Digital was breached, exposing nearly a petabyte of sensitive records.

@tunguz you've never seen an oligopoly better-suited to bungling every conceivable natural advantage than Canadian telecoms. You should not be bullish on this if Telus is involved in any capacity whatsoever

@MarkJCarney Hooray for Telus building stuff but my concern here is that we're about to see another multi billion dollar pile of taxpayer money evaporate, just like with the EV battery mess. If the gov can limit itself to policy support, great. But lots of strikes so far leave me skeptical.

@PeterKellyBC My personal experience is that they can’t manage their telus communication services very well..so I wish they would fix what they already have, before adding more.

@LennyNanZhou @TELUS They make this claim. It ends up in an article and is passed along as fact? No thanks. **** AI. These mass surveillance data centres are no good.

@JamesDueck @MarkJCarney Makes sense for Telus, free money from the Feds, AI eliminates masses of employees, Telus rakes in more cash. Win , win for those damn shysters.
