@darrinhenshaw The piece has some clues: it was a cascading failure knocked their in-house network offline so they had to sneaker-net to their remote sites, they also lost VPN at the same time and only the fact they had some Bell and Telus SIM cards about let them talk to each other at all.

Roger's cell service suck, we have a new cell tower nearby, about a month now, my phone still hasn't worked. I don't care if it's a telus tower, get your **** together...roger

@missakind @JustinTrudeau Theres literally Bell, Telus and Freedom networks in Canada besides Rogers. There isn't a monopoly, other carriers just use one of the above networks since you know a network of cellphone towers isn't exactly cheap to make therefore leasing network usage is cheaper.
