But just had a friend call me and it's working again now. So I assume it was perhaps network congestion or something else temporary. Anyway, all good now!

Same thing goes with Telus and Koodo. Koodo is Telus' flanker brand. My guess is that you've probably switched to a BYOD plan by switching to Virgin from Bell. This is how much I pay, on a BYOD plan. I had Telus home service. It would drop off at least four times a day and I lose the tv as well. Very irritating when you are watching any sport or movie. I’d gladly pay the extra for reliability.
